I really appreciate that ECI 508 is a required course for me to take. Before taking this course, I think I’m even not a current teacher , then how can I be a teacher leader? Generally, a teacher leader must be the person who is working in the formal leading position such as principals and directors. However, after reading the books, discussing with the teacher and classmates, I realize that every teacher has the potential to be a teacher leader and teacher leadership doesn’t mean that we must be on a formal position at school. In the 21st century, the expectations of teachers have shifted a lot. Teachers now are not only expected to be competent professionals but also leaders in their classrooms, schools and the global educational community. From my point of view, many teachers have already done the things about leadership, but they did not realize it. So, what is teacher leadership after all?My definition of teacher leadership is that teacher leaders formally or informally lead within and beyond the classroom, are willing to share and collaborate with others, influencing others to improve professional growth, students’ learning and school’s development. In whatever definitions, there is no disagreement that teacher leadership work involves three dimensions: individual development, collaboration or team development, and organizational development.

About teaching writing, I want to say...
#1. Teaching writing can be ARTISTIC
- Arrange the classroom by changing seats
As a teacher, you don’t often get the chance to choose your classroom. However, the many fixtures and fittings means there’s a lot you can do to change the layout to engage students.
- Add more art factors in teaching
China advocates quality-oriented education that we should promote our children comprehensive development both mentally and physically. Too often, our educational system is forced to defend music and arts in face of different reasons, like distracting students’ attention, wasting time and being short of professional faculty, but we can do better. We need to utilize this jubilant time of year not only to consider combining music and arts in education, but to discuss ways to fully incorporate them into the lives of our children.

On the left, there's one of my Multigenre Project pieces that I wrote a poem for the illustration I paintedn for the book I read. It's a great example that combines writing with art. |
#2. Teaching can be GAMIFIED----Action Plan
Teachers who take risks are the teachers who become leaders. The same concept applies to students. "The strongest potential for advocacy is within teachers themselves, and the solutions rely on the deliberate actions of teacher leaders who are realistic about the current problems and potential obstacles yet still find ways to work with their colleagues and others in productive ways." (Katzenmeyer & Moller) Writing is a major form of student expression. They too can address issues through writing, giving them a power they desire.
In ECI 508, Teachers as Leaders, students use writing to advocate solutions to educational issues. Again, writing about something you are passionate about engages you. It makes a student feel that they can make a difference. Writing for change is very motivational for students. It also motivational to the readers, making the writing all the more engaging.
